December 2006-January 2007
We had a wonderful experience. It wasn’t all easy but it was all
good. We went to 9 or 10 orphanages or half way houses in 4 different cities across the Ukraine. It was all very well received and a bit heartbreaking to see some of the conditions. We gave away over 3000 pairs of pajamas! At least we know that over 3000 kids will sleep a bit warmer in the frigid cold of the Ukraine.
i've found that performing service for others makes me happy. seems like an easy concept so...why do i neglect to do it more often?
These kids were great...nothing like playing basketball in a sweaty old gym while wearing long johns...whew!
There are over 100,000 orphaned or abandoned children in Ukraine. Alcohol is the largest contributor to the problem.
I also picked up the eastern bloc perspective on WWII. Very interesting. Very sad. Read this link for more info...
